HIGH Museum of Art Photographer | Rashid Johnson Exhibit | Atlanta Event Photographer
I photograph events for Atlanta’s High Museum of Art often, and I am always thrilled to do so. I’m a lifelong art nerd/freak, and it feels like my natural habitat. This Rashid Johnson exhibit was a fabulous event; complete with a talented artist, and some of Atlanta’s art scene fixtures in tow to check it out.
I found Rashid Johnson’s work to be powerful and vulnerable all at once, and I was moved by it. His mix of concept-driven work and photography hit the mark for me. We are about the same age, and I could feel the shared influences of our formative years in his work. I completely enjoyed this exhibit.
I’m looking forward to photographing more events at The High Museum of Art in 2014! :)
Children’s Portrait Photographer | Atlanta Portrait Photography
Working with little children is just awesome! I am never one to try to force poses and locations. I just join in their fun, and that works for me. If I’m just another playmate it’s pretty easy for me to gently ‘direct’ without any little ones knowing what I’m up to. This way the portrait session is a fun play date, rather than some tantrum-inducing mess. I’ve always loved hanging out with little minds, and watching their wonderful imaginations come out. I think if you treat children like wonderful little people they will always present you with authentic and adorable portraiture. These four blond cuties are cousins, and they are beyond sweet together. I love this bright, cheery, colorful summer session!
Let me know if you want to schedule a play date with me and my camera!
Atlanta Wedding Photographer | Engagement Portraits in Atlanta, Georgia
Yay! Engagement Sessions! I’ve said it a million times, but I love, love, love my engagement sessions. They are fun, and creative, and romantic, and just perfect portrait sessions. Mind you, I love shooting something new every day. This week I have a family session, a newborn session, and three homes for a design firm. I like the ever changing subject in my viewfinder, and there isn’t really anything that I don’t photograph, but there is something about engagement sessions that always feels like a blast. I think anything wedding related tends to be near and dear as I’ve photographed about 600 weddings in my career, but I also think that Photo By Gannon has some of the coolest couples around. I love getting that intimate time to myself with my soon-to-be-married couples. It’s priceless to me! After talking to my bride-to-be about some of their hobbies, activities, and likes I came up with a location game plan. I think we really hit the mark. I can’t wait for this sweet young couple’s wedding day this spring!
The groom has a love of baseball, and I thought it was fantastic that the bride wanted to incorporate that into our custom engagement session. That’s what it’s all about.
When I photograph a couple’s engagement portrait sessions in Atlanta it’s always about multiple locations. I love to match up my couple in the perfect locations.
Did you get engaged this winter? Starting to plan your wedding? I’d love to chat with you, and you’d love to have a wedding photographer that thinks your wedding day is as important as you do! See! We’re a match made in heaven already……….a custom engagement portrait session is included in all of my wedding packages. Let’s go outside and play!!
Atlanta Family Portraits | Atlanta Portrait Photographer
This growing little family had just welcomed their beautiful little daughter, and wanted to capture this special time. Many of my clients opt to do baby’s first portrait session when the little one is a bit older. Of course as a portrait photographer I say ‘Let’s do BOTH’, but I’m a little biased I suppose. ;) I met up with this sweet family for a portrait session at home. It’s something that I do often when a family wants to keep things personal and more intimate, and especially when little children are involved.
As an Atlanta portrait photographer I have about a million locations up my sleeve, but sometimes it’s nice to just work in the home of my clients. They are comfortable there. It’s private, and it’s probably somewhere I’ve never been. I actually like to show up blind, and find all the best spots in a small residential location. The comfort of my portrait clients is probably the biggest asset of a home portrait session. After all, that’s what great portrait work is all about!
If you are welcoming a new member in your family, or just planning a spring portrait session I’d love to be a part of it. Nothing makes me happier than filling your frames!
Piedmont Park and Downtown Decatur Engagement Portraits | Atlanta and Decatur, Georgia Wedding Photographer
This sweet young couple met up with me in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park to kick off their engagement portrait session. They got married months later in a STUNNING rustic-chic farm wedding so we wanted to try for a more urban feeling for the engagement sessions. After working in Piedmont Park we hit a couple of spots on our way to downtown Decatur for a few final looks. When I photograph an engagement session I love to get a ton of options, and we worked with some of Atlanta and Decatur’s classics. I photograph weddings and portrait sessions ALL OVER the Atlanta area so I’ve always got ideas for locations after I talk to my couple about the type of ‘look’ that they want for the session. When this couple said that they wanted a classic city feel we went for the heart of it!
I had such a great time with this couple. They are young, and full of life and love. Cheers to that!
Newborn and Family Photographer | Dahlonega, Georgia
I photographed this adorable couple’s wedding in Dahlonega, Georgia a few winters ago, and I was tickled PINK when they called me to photograph their new arrival. This little cutie is honestly like a living doll. I headed up to the Dahlonega area to work with them in their home. I find that’s best when working with a newborn. Newborn portraiture is more about this tiny and beautiful little person than finding a fabulous location. It’s up close and personal, and all about snuggles and hugs. :)
I particularly love this one. Here she sleeps, wrapped in the tartan sash that her paternal grandmother wore on the couple’s wedding day. I always ask my new parents to pull special objects for the shoot. I think something from their wedding is especially lovely for a new little girl. I know that when she grows up she’ll appreciate this sweet image. That makes me very, very happy. :)
Yep! That’s her mommy’s sash from her wedding dress. Love it!
I adore this sweet little family, and can’t wait to photograph all of their big moments throughout the years.
Atlanta Wedding Photographer | Engagement Photos in Atlanta
Engagement portrait sessions are probably my favorite ‘thing’ to photograph. It’s hard to really pick just one thing when you photograph weddings, newborns, artists, interiors, and families…….often ALL in one week! But what I really love most about engagement sessions is the intimate time that I get with my couple. On the wedding day things are intense, and move fast, and really fly. During my engagement sessions I really get to know my couple. I see how they interact physically; what’s organic and natural. I see how they play and tease, and I see how they laugh. This is invaluable information for me. My quest is to capture all of those things in a real way. These two were so natural together. A laugh was an easy get, and I just adore them. We chose locations around the metro Atlanta area as these two live in the heart of the city. I think we did a wonderful job of showcasing their amazing love and friendship.
Are you a newly engaged love bird? Just starting to plan your wedding in Atlanta? I’d love to hear from you, and plan YOUR custom engagement session! :)
Peachtree Christian Church | Anis Restaurant | Atlanta Wedding Photographer
Weddings at Peachtree Christian Church are always perfectly lovely. Commanding attention on Peachtree Street, it’s hard to miss this historic church. I have had the pleasure to photograph numerous weddings at Peachtree Christian Church, and this most recent took place in their intimate chapel. After the ceremony I was super excited for the reception at Anis. Anis is a favorite french bistro in Buckhead, that screams intimacy and romance. Though I’ve eaten at Anis many times I’ve never photographed a wedding in their space, and they did a superb job as expected. If you are overdue for a date night Anis should be on your list. ;)
A gust of wind + a photographer that never stops watching + a gorgeous bride = adorable moment! :)
This sweet wedding was blessed with a little rain(Yes! It is good luck I say!), and the light that pours into Peachtree Christian Church made Mother Nature’s rainstorm no problem at all!
Are you planning your wedding RIGHT NOW? This Atlanta wedding photographer would be THRILLED to talk with you about your big day. Not getting married in Atlanta? No problem. Photo By Gannon travels to destinations near and far. Let’s talk!
Atlanta Event Photography | Art Opening | Buckhead, Atlanta
This fabulous art opening was such a cool event for me to photograph. I know the artist as I’ve worked with her quite a few times over the years. This emerging artist happens to also be the co-owner of one of my favorite salons; Sego! As a wedding photographer I love when I work with another vendor enough to establish a great relationship. The AMAZING team at Sego definitely fall into that category. They are cool, talented, and an absolute blast to work with. I’m always super excited to share a bride with them! It was nice to see a whole new passion of this lovely, lovely gal.
This chic little event took place at Modern Mercantile & Trade in Buckhead; a mixed use space. They have jewelry, vintage clothing, event space, and unique vintage rentals. Planning a rustic, outdoor wedding? They’ve got you covered. Need some mid-century props? Got it!
The dynamic duo behind Modern Mercantile & Trade.
As a portrait photographer I work with every possible subject that you can imagine. I have to say that one of my favorite portrait session experiences has to be when I have a one on one with a fellow creative. Nothing like it!
Savannah Wedding Photographer | Christ Church Ceremony | Savannah Golf Club Reception
This Savannah, Georgia destination wedding was a beauty. A destination wedding is always exciting for me, and give me a chance to work somewhere new. Savannah is a town I’m pretty familiar with, as I’ve photographed weddings here before, and also taken a few wonderful trips here. But it’s always a pleasure to be in Savannah with my camera. If you have never been to Savannah, plan a trip today. It’s such a cool town. It’s perfectly stunning, and full of characters that could have bounced right off of a page. One of my favorite things to do in Savannah is park it on a bench, and people watch. The city is full of old world charm, but is also energized by the presence of the esteemed art institute SCAD. The hip and fashionable SCAD students add a bit of youth and energy, and I always like to see what the young artists are rocking. Savannah is beyond romantic, and lends itself very well to a destination wedding. Cobblestone streets with ancient oaks dressed up in spanish moss. It’s just overflowing with romance. The day of the wedding I got up early to walk around, and just photograph the city. When I photograph a destination wedding I really treat the location as a character in the mix. My couple chose this destination for their wedding, and I want to be able to supply them with some landscape, art, and street photography. It’s also something that I adore doing. After my morning of photographing the streets of Savannah I met up with my bride and the ladies at JW Salon for all of the getting ready fun.
While I’m getting photojournalistic coverage of the ladies getting camera ready I also use that time to photograph all of the details of the day; shoes, jewelrey, etc. I LOVE getting up close and personal with all of the details. :)
After JW Salon we were off for Christ Church on Bull Street. Christ Church is a historic gem.
After a romantic ride in a vintage car we arrived at The Savannah Golf Club for a gorgeous reception. It was a top notch party with a packed dance floor, and amazing food and drinks. I was excited when I saw the stunning lighting. Ambient lighting makes a photographer very happy.
Cheers to this couple’s beautiful Savannah wedding! Here are a few peaks at the flavor of Savannah, Georgia………..
I cannot wait to get back to Savannah, Georgia! Are you planning your wedding in this magical city? I would LOVE to be a part of it……..
